When a service goes down, create an event that explains the issue and what your team is doing to solve it. Once the issue is fixed, create another event reflecting this. All these events are shown in a reverse-chronological timeline under each service. You can also use REST API integration to retrieve status information.

The tool is open-source and free to use. You have to set up everything yourself but there are in-depth instructions on the website.

Free open source status page builder

Staytus is a free open source status page builder that you install on your own servers. The page shows the current status of your services, upcoming issues. and a historical timeline.Adding issues and updates is easy via the admin UI. These updates are tracked via the tool’s timeline. There is also JSON API integration, so you can update the page from the other tools you use. You can also connect the status page to monitoring systems.

Scheduled maintenance features let you alert customers to expected downtime. And your customers can sign up to be notified of issues by email. Whenever you add an update or announce maintenance, the tool automatically emails all your customers about the issue

The tool uses a default theme that is responsive so it works on both mobile and desktop devices. You can also design themes that fit your branding.

As an open source project, the tool is free to download. You’ll have to install it on your own server.

Serverless status page tool with pay-as-you-go pricing

Next, I turned to my selection criteria below to help me make my final selections. Using these criteria as a framework, I was able to compare each product to see how it stacked up to the others.
